Frightening First World War
Year 5 visited the Staffordshire Regiment Museum, followed by the National Memorial Arboretum this half term. They were lucky enough to walk through a trench system so they could imagine what life might have been like for soldiers in in WWI and also got to try on uniforms and learn more about the weapons used at the time. In the afternoon, at the Arboretum, they visited the Christmas Truce memorial, as well as paying their respects at the central memorial wall. It was a fantastic day. The children also had a theme launch day in school where they found out even more about the first world war and what life was like for those in Britain.
The children in Year 5 have had lots of fantastic lessons this term. They have been learning all about the Vikings, including sewing Viking ensigns, exploring new vocabulary in Literacy, making blood in science and much more.
